Destiny
August 9, 2026
Set sail for an unforgettable, family-friendly evening of music and community during Astoria’s festive Regatta weekend! The Columbia River Symphony invites music lovers of all ages to their spectacular summer concert, "Destiny: Follow the River to Where the Music Meets the Horizon."
This summer's cinematic theme brings a thrilling, high-energy lineup that stretches from ancient mythology to the far reaches of the galaxy. The orchestra will take the audience on an epic musical journey featuring the powerful ancient sounds of Soon Hee Newbold’s "The Iliad," the dramatic clash of Randall Standridge’s "Fracas," the exotic rhythms of Samuel R. Hazo’s "Arabesque," and the sun-soaked, lively celebration of "Havana," arranged by Victor Lopez. Listeners will also experience the breathtaking call for peace in Christopher Tin’s "Kia Hora te Marino," a beautiful, nostalgic nod to science fiction with Jay Chattaway’s "The Inner Light," a stunning orchestral reimagining of the timeless classic "Unchained Melody" arranged by Roland Smeets, and the hopeful, forward-looking anthem "Millennium" by Richard Meyer.
Come out and support your local community symphony for a night where the music truly meets the horizon!
Doors open at 6:00 PM. Arrive early and pick up snacks and drinks from our Lower Lobby Concessions to enjoy from your seat during the show! Free admission - donations gratefully accepted.
